The paper is concerned with the existence of solutions with bounded variation (BV) to integral equations of the form \[ x(t)= g(t)+ \lambda \int_I K(t,s) f(x(s))\,ds,\tag{E} \] \(t\in I\), \(\lambda\in R\), as well as the special case of (E), say \[ x(t)= g(t)+ \int^t_0 K(t,s) f(x(s))\,ds.\tag{E\(_1\)} \] Under rather natural assumptions on data, it is proved that for sufficiently small \(|\lambda|\), the equation (E) has a unique solution with bounded variation, defined on the interval \(I\). Conditions are also provided for local existence of bounded variation solution to the equation \((\text{E}_1)\). Further investigation leads to the existence of continuous solutions with bounded variation. The case of solutions with values in a Banach space is also treated. The integrals involved are considered in the Lebesgue or Lebesgue-Bochner sense.
