In this article the author introduces the Riemann zeta-function, states its product representation and the functional equation. The Riemann hypothesis on the non-trivial zeros of \(\zeta(s)\) is equivalent with \(R(x) = \pi(x) - \text{li}(x) = {\mathcal O}\bigl( \sqrt{x} \cdot \log x \bigr)\). The author mentions von Mangoldt's formula, numerical computations, and, extremely short, analogous conjectures on the congruence zeta-function (H. Hasse, A. Weil, P. Deligne) and ideas of D. Hilbert and Ch. Deninger. [Reviewer's remark: The statement ``Noch immer ist E. Littlewoods (1885-1977) Abschätzung aus dem Jahre 1922 im wesentlichen unübertroffen'' is definitely wrong. Littlewood's estimate \[ R(x) = {\mathcal O}\left( x \cdot \exp ( - C \sqrt{\log x \log\log x}) \right) \] is strongly surpassed by results of N. G. Chudakov, N. M. Korobov, and I. M. Vinogradov (as corrected by H.-E. Richert). The reader is advised to consult the monographs of \textit{W. Narkiewicz}, The development of prime number theory (2000; Zbl 0942.11002), \textit{A. Ivič}, The Riemann zeta-function (1985; Zbl 0556.10026), reprint Dover Publ. (2003; Zbl 1034.11046), and the classics The theory of the Riemann zeta-function (1930; Zbl 0042.07901), Oxford: Clarendon Press, 2nd edition (1986; Zbl 0601.10026), by \textit{E. C. Titchmarsh}, or the monographs of K. Prachar, P. Ribenboim, S. J. Patterson, \dots; all these are not mentioned in the author's bibliography].
