The paper under review studies conditions when a locally compact group can be recovered by some category of its continuous representations. One of the main results of the paper states the following: for a locally compact group \(G\) and a monoidal subcategory \(C\) of continuous uniformly bounded representations in a locally convex vector space with real structure, suppose that \(C\) is stable under complex conjugation and forming the dual, and so that the intersection of the kernel of all representations is trivial, and so that there is a non-zero matrix coefficient for any representation belonging to \(L^p(G)\) for a positive \(p\), then \(G\) is determined by \(C\). Actually, \(G\) appears then as the automorphism group of some specific object. Tannaka-Krein duality for compact groups and Tatsuuma duality for unitary representations of locally compact groups are then corollaries. Theorem. Let \(G\) be a locally compact group, and let \({\mathfrak C}\) be a monoidal subcategory of the category of continuous uniformly bounded representations of \(G\) in reflexive locally convex vector spaces with real structure. Suppose that the category \({\mathcal C}\) contains with any representation its dual, is closed under complex conjugation, and separates elements of \(G\) (i.e., the intersection of kernels of representations of \({\mathfrak C}\) is the trivial subgroup). If among nonzero matrix elements of representations of \({\mathfrak C}\) there is one which belongs to \(L^p(G,d_l)\) for some \(p>0\), then the group \(G\) is reconstructed from \({\mathfrak C}\) via a certain canonical procedure.
