The author examines the so-called Camassa-Holm equation \[ \partial_t u- \partial^3_{txx} u+ 3u\partial_x u= 2\partial_x u\partial^2_{xx}u+ u\partial^3_{xxx}u \] which described the wave propagation in shallow water. In particular, the author investigates the well-posedness for data in Besov spaces \(B^s_{2,r}\) with critical index \(s= 3/2\). The main result states that the problem is locally well-posed in \(B^{{3\over 2}}_{2,1}\) in the sense of Hadamard, but is not locally well-posed in \(B^{{3\over 2}}_{2,\infty}\).
