In some recent works [\textit{J. Cuntz}, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 38, Part 1, 81--84 (1982; Zbl 0502.46050), \textit{E. Germain}, Duke Math. J. 82, 707--723 (1996; Zbl 0863.46046); J. Reine Angew. Math. 485, 1--10 (1997; Zbl 0865.19005)], \textit{J. Cuntz} and \textit{E. Germain} conjectured the existence of some short exact sequences for KK-groups of the amalgamated free product \(A_1 *_B A_2\) and \(A_1,A_2, B\). Germain also pointed out a *-homomorphism \(G: C = \text{cone} (B \to A_1 \oplus A_2) \to S(A_1 *_B A_2)\) of the cone \(\text{cone}(B \to A_1 \oplus A_2)\) and the suspension \(S(A_1 *_B A_2)\) of the amalgamated free product, and made the observation that the conjecture is equivalent to the KK-invertibility of the *-homomorphism \(G\). He also proved the KK-invertibility of \(G\) for the case when \(B=\mathbb C\). By almost the same method, the author proves in this paper the KK-invertibility for the case when \(B\) is finite dimensional (Theorem 2.7). In the case when \(B\) is properly embedded into \(A_1\) and \(A_2\), i.e., an approximate unit in \(B\) is also an approximate unit in \(A_1\) and in \(A_2\), there is a short exact sequence \[ 0 \to S(A_1 *_B A_2) \to \text{cone}(A_1) *_{SB} \text{cone}(A_2) \to A_1 * A_2 \to 0. \] In Theorem 6.3 for the case when \(B\) is nuclear or is the range of an conditional expectation in \(A_1\) and \(A_2\), the author proves the conjecture for the Connes-Higson theory \(E\).
