The present paper gives a vanishing theorem of Bochner type in Weyl geometry, extending recent results of the same authors in case of Hermitian manifolds [Differ. Geom. Appl. 14, 251--265 (2001; Zbl 0986.53025)]. More precisely, the authors study Weyl structures on compact manifolds, such that the symmetric part of the Ricci tensor satisfies certain positive conditions. They prove that such a manifold has first Betti number \(b_1 =1\) and that any oriented 3-dimensional manifold is diffeomorphic to \(S^1\times S^2\). Also, they apply previous results to Hermitian-Weyl four manifolds. In case of greater dimension than four, under the assumption that the canonical Hermitian-Weyl structure has Ricci tensor with nonnegative symmetric part, it is shown that \(b_1= 1\) and the Hodge numbers \(h^{p,q}\) are either \(0\) or \(1\) for \(p> 0\), \(q= 0\) and \(q> 1\), \(p= 0\) or \(p= 0\), \(q= 1\), respectively.
