In a detailled case study the homoclinic tangle for the Poincaré map of the non-integrable Hamiltonian system with \[ H = \tfrac{1}{2} (\dot{x}^2 + \dot{y}^2+Ax^2+By^2) - \varepsilon x^2y \] is described. Large parts of the invariant manifolds of a hyperbolic fixed point are calculated numerically and their intersections are determined. In contrast to previous more analytic studies there are two resonance areas due to reflection symmetry and each branch of the stable manifold intersects both branches of the unstable manifold. This leads to a very rich structure of intersections of inner and outer homoclinic lobes. Empirical rules for the different types of intersections are presented and their dependence on the energy is studied.
