The motion of an aircraft described by nonlinear ordinary differential equations is considered. On the base of these equations the probable malfunctions in the motion control system are classified and concepts of reference malfunctions and their neighborhoods are introduced. Then the mathematical modeling of the malfunctions and their neighborhoods are carried out. Also a concept of a diagnostic space is introduced and the problem of diagnostics is formulated for the motion control system of an aircraft. The problem of diagnostics is statistically solved for a case of noise-perturbed trajectory mesurements. The algorithms of solving the diagnostics problem are worked out and tested.
