The authors consider a production model involving labor time and output where individuals are characterized by their resource utilization ability and production skill. An individual thus has a certain capability for well-being in the model. The purpose of the paper is to show that there exist assignments of capabilities, or distribution rules, satisfying certain fairness requirements including the Needs Principle and two social solidarity conditions preventing individuals from unduly suffering due to involuntary loss of supply of labor time, or to loss of ability due to bad accidents. The rules thus support the equality of capability in the Sen's sense.
