    Let \(X\) be a \(\sigma\)-complete Banach lattice, \(x \in X^+\), and \(y \in X\), then \(P_{x}(y)\) is defined to be \(\bigvee_{n} nx \vee (y^+) - \bigvee_{n} nx\vee(y^-)\). When \(K \subset X\), then \(P_{x}\) is said to be uniform for \(y \in K\) provided that for each \(\varepsilon>0\), there is an \(M \in \mathbf{N}\) such that \(\|nx \vee y - P_{x}(y) \|< \varepsilon\), for each \(n \geq M\) and \( y \in K\). Here the authors show that if \( K \subset X\) is relatively compact and \(X\) is a \(\sigma\)-complete and countably order continuous Banach lattice, then there is an \(x \in X^+\) such that \(P_{x}(k) = k\) uniformly for each \(k \in K\). As a consequence of this result, they obtain a variant for certain Banach lattices of a theorem of Bartle, Dunford and Schwartz [Can. J. Math. 7, 289-305 (1955; Zbl 0068.09301)] which deals with absolute continuity in spaces of measures.
