In the excellently written paper the author develops the surface theory in the equiaffine space \(\mathbb{R}^4\) on the basis of Weyl's gauge theory. In this theory the fundamental structures are a Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metric \(g\) and a vector field \(P\) called the gauge vector, both defined on a manifold \(M\). After a short introduction the author divides the paper into the following steps: Weyl geometry and Burstin/Mayer metric, isotropy between tangent and normal bundle, structure equations and fundamental theorem, vector-valued forms of the normal bundles \(N^\theta\), the normal bundle of Klingenberg/Weise, the normal bundle of Nomizu/Vrancken, application to the equivalence and homogeneity problem, further connections. Among the numerous results the following result is cited as example: Every nondegenerate homogeneous surface in \(\mathbb{R}^4\) is generated by a two-dimensional Lie subgroup of \(SA(4)\). The comprehensive and interesting paper is completed by carefully chosen references.
