The authors investigate viscosity solutions for a class of Hamilton-Jacobi equations (including the eikonal equation) with measurable dependence on the state variable. Using the notion of transversality between curves and Lebesgue-zero-sets from [\textit{G. De Cecco} and \textit{G. Palmieri}, Math. Z. 218, 223--237 (1995; Zbl 0819.53014)] and suitable assumptions on the zero-sublevel sets of the Hamiltonian, they generalize a representation formula characterizing a set of fundamental solutions. This procedure leads to a suitable definition of viscosity solutions, which allows for existence, uniqueness and stability results.
