The authors analyze the convergence and smoothness of certain class of nonlinear subdivision schemes in the uniform Hölder metic. In particular, they study the stability properties of these schemes. Afterwards, they apply this analysis to the specific class based on the essentially nonoscillatory refinements (ENO) introduced by \textit{A. Harten, B. Engquist, S. Osher} and \textit{S. Chakravarthy} [J. Comput. Phys. 71, 231--303 (1987; Zbl 0652.65067)]. The authors also deal with the weighted-ENO interpolation techniques (WENO) developed by \textit{T. Chan}, \textit{X.-D. Liu} and \textit{T. Osher} [J. Comput. Phys. 115, 200--212 (1994; Zbl 0811.65076)]. In ENO interpolation, a small round-off error perturbation of the data an result in changing the selected stencils. This situation is avoided in WENO interpolation. The interest or the authors in these techniques is motivated by their application to signal and image processing.
