The stability in the sense of Hyers and Ulam of the quadratic-additive type functional equation \[ f(x+y,t+s)+f(x-y,t+s)= 2f(x,t)+2f(y,s) \] and the superstability of the d'Alembert-Cauchy functional equation \[ f(x+y,t+s)+f(x-y,t+s)= 2f(x,t)f(y,s) \] are established. Using these results and the fundamental solution of the heat equation, the stability of the quadratic and d'Alembert functional equations in the spaces of distributions and hyperfunctions are proved.
