The authors of this interesting paper study the blowup phenomenon in the evolution of the gaseous stars. The mathematical model describing this phenomenon contains Euler-Poisson equations and the Poisson equation describing the energy potential for the self-gravitating force \[ {\partial \rho \over \partial t}+\operatorname {div} (\rho v)=0, \] \[ {\partial (\rho v) \over \partial t}+\operatorname {div} (\rho v \otimes v)+\nabla P=-\rho \nabla\Phi , \] \[ s_t+\operatorname {div} (s v)=0, \] \[ \triangle\Phi =N(N-2)\omega_Ng_\rho , \] where \(t\geq 0\), \(x\in \mathbb R\)\(^N\), \(N\geq 3\), \(\rho =\rho (t,x)\) is the density, \(v=v(t,x)\in \mathbb R\)\(^N\) is the velocity, \(\Phi =\Phi (t,x)\) is the potential for the self-gravitational force, \(g\) is the gravitational constant, \(\omega_N\) is the measure of the unit ball in \(\mathbb R\)\(^N\), \(s\) is the entropy and \(P\) is the pressure. Here it is assumed that the equation of state for barotropic gas is satisfied \(P=K\rho ^{\gamma }e^s\) (\(\gamma =\text{const} >1\) - adiabatic gas constant). The support of the gas is compact initially. The authors give a family of blowup solutions for non-isentropic polytropic gas when \(\gamma =(2N-2)/N\) which generalizes the known result for the isentropic case. Then the previous result is extended on non-blowup phenomena to the case when \((2N-2)/N\leq \gamma < 2\) in \(N-\)dimensional space. It is discussed whether or not the support of the density will collapse to a single point in finite time, which corresponds to the core collapse phenomena in astrophysics.
