The paper refers to the initial boundary value problem for a dissipative wave equation in an exterior domain of an \(N\) dimensional Euclidian space whose boundary is a compact regular hypersurface. The decay estimates of solutions for the linear equation as well as the global solvability problem for semilinear dissipative equations in an exterior domain are studied. The cut-off method together with local energy decay and \(L^2\) decays in the whole space are used.
