The central object of study in the paper under review is the general nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm integral equation and its numerical treatment. \textit{S. Kumar} and \textit{I. H. Sloan} [Math. Comp. 48, 585--593 (1987; Zbl 0616.65142)] introduced an approach to convert the conventional Hammerstein integral equation into a conductive form for approximation by collocation methods. This approach has been extended to several dimensions by \textit{J. I. Frankel} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 61, 263--274 (1995; Zbl 0842.65096)]. Using this method, computational costs can be reduced significantly. Further on, \textit{H. Brunner} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 27, 987--1000 (1990; Zbl 0702.65104)] suggested a discrete time collocation method to calculate the solution of nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm integral equations. Combining these two approaches, the author derives a method to obtain a posteriori error estimates by symbolic computation and computes error bound for the cases of algebraic and exponential nonlinearities. A numerical exampe is given in the last section.
