On a contact metric manifold \(M(\eta , \xi , \varphi , g)\) we define an additional structure tensor field \(h\) by \(h={1\over 2}{\mathfrak L}_\xi\varphi\), where \(\mathfrak L\) denotes Lie differentiation. \(M\) is called a \((k, \mu)\)-space if its curvature tensor satisfies \[ R(X, Y)\xi=k(\eta(Y)X- \eta(X)Y)+\mu(\eta(Y)hX- \eta(Y)hX) \] for constants \(k\) and \(\mu\). When \(k=1\), the structure is Sasakian, but there are many non-Sasakian examples including the unit tangent bundles of a space of constant curvature \(c\) in which case \(k=c(2-c)\) and \(\mu=-2c\). For the details of the above and a classification in dimension \(3\), see \textit{D. E. Blair}, \textit{T. Koufogiorgos} and \textit{B. J. Papantoniou}, [Isr. J. Math. 91, 189--214 (1995; Zbl 0837.53038)]. In a previous paper [Arch. Math. 72, 466--472 (1999; Zbl 0963.53007)] the author proved that the (non-Sasakian) \((k, \mu)\)-spaces are strongly locally \(\varphi \)-symmetric (i.e. the local reflections with respect to the integral curves of \(\xi \) are local isometries) and locally homogeneous. In the present paper the author is interested in the question whether every strongly locally \(\varphi \)-symmetric contact metric space is a \((k, \mu )\)-space and he shows that the answer is positive for left-invariant contact metric structures on Lie groups.
