Let \((M,\omega)\) be a symplectic manifold and let \(\sigma: G\times M\to M\) be an effective strongly Hamiltonian action of a connected Lie group \((g,x)\to g\cdot x\) \((g\in G)\). For the Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\) of \(G\) let \({d\over dt}\exp(- tX)\). \(x|_{t=0}\) \((X\in{\mathfrak g})\), be denoted by \(X^*\) and let \(J^*:{\mathfrak g}\subset C^\infty(g^*)\to C^\infty(M)\) be the map given by \((J^* X)(x)= \langle J(x),X\rangle\), where \(J: M\to{\mathfrak g}^*\) is the \(G\)-invariant momentum map defined by \(\iota(X^*)\omega= d(J^*X)\). For a regular value \(\mu\in{\mathfrak g}\), the constraint manifold \(\Sigma_\mu= J^{-1}(\mu)\) is proven to admit a torsion-free linear connection \(\nabla_XY= P(\mathring\nabla_X Y)\), where \(\mathring\nabla\) is defined for any symplectic connection \(\widehat\nabla\) by \[ (\mathring\nabla_X Y)_x= \int_G[(g\cdot\widehat\nabla)_XY]_x\,dg, \] and \(P_x\) is the projection of \(T_xM\) to \(T_x\Sigma_\mu\). Now, if we suppose that \((M,\omega)\) is endowed with this \(G\)-invariant connection, then there exists a natural way to construct a symplectic connection \(\nabla^r\) on a reduced manifold \((M^r,\omega^r)\) considered earlier by Marsden and Weinstein, namely one concludes that the Marsden-Weinstein reduction is always compatible with a symplectic connection.
