The purpose of the paper is to show that important examples exist where the statement ``every symmetric matrix can be brought into diagonal form by a suitable rotation'' lead to incorrect results. The authors give a class of solutions where the statement ``in the case of metric depending only on one coordinate the diagonalization can always be achieved'' is not correct.
