The Jacobi transform of order \((\alpha,\beta)\) is defined by \[ {\mathcal F}^{\alpha,\beta} f(\lambda):= \int_{\mathbb{R}^+} f(t) \phi^{\alpha,\beta}_\lambda(t) J^{\alpha,\beta}(t)\,dt \] for even functions \(f\), where \[ J^{\alpha,\beta}(t)= (2\sinh(t))^{2\alpha+ 1}(2\cosh(t))^{2\beta+ 1}\quad\text{and}\quad \phi^{\alpha,\beta}_\lambda(t) \] is the Jacobi function of order \((\alpha,\beta)\). The classical Paley-Wiener theorem for the Jacobi transform [\textit{T. H. Koornwinder}, Ark. Math. 13, 145--159 (1975; Zbl 0303.42022)] states that the normalized transform \[ f\to\Gamma(\alpha+ 1)^{-1}{\mathcal F}^{\alpha,\beta} f \] is a bijection from the space of even, compactly supported, infinitely differentiable functions to the space of even entire rapidly decreasing functions of exponential type. For an appropriate definition of Paley-Wiener space \(\text{PW}^2(R)^{\alpha,\beta}\) the present author provides a real \(L^2\) Paley-Wiener theorem for the inverse Jacobi transform. He shows that it is a bijection of a certain subspace of even, compactly supported functions in \(L^2(c^{\alpha,\beta})\) onto \(\text{PW}^2(R)^{\alpha,\beta}\), where \(c^{\alpha,\beta}(\lambda)\) are the meromorphic Jacobi \(c\)-functions.
