The author presents an elliptic analog of the Stark conjecture for the value of \(L\)-functions at \(s = 0.\) Although this is implied by the general Beilinson conjectures, the restriction to elliptic curves allows a concrete approach here. Roughly speaking, the Beilinson conjectures for a curve \(E\) defined over a number field \(F\) consist of two parts: 1 - ``Dimension conjecture'' : \(\dim\;K_2(E_F) \otimes {\mathbb Q} = [F : {\mathbb Q}] := n.\) 2 - ``\(L\)-value conjecture'' : \(L(s, E)^n \approx_{{\mathbb Q}^\ast}\det\;[\text{reg}(\xi_i)_{\phi_j}].\) The author concentrates on elliptic curves \(E\) defined over \(F\) and having complex multiplication by the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic field \(K\). Take a Galois extension \(M/F\), containing \(K\), and let \(\rho : G = \text{Gal}(M/F) \to \text{GL}(V)\) be a complex representation with character \(\chi\). Then a function \(L(s, E \otimes \chi)\) can be defined, which has a zero at \(s = 0\) of order \(n\dim V\). Assuming the above dimension conjecture 1, the author defines a Stark-like number \(A(E,\chi) = R(E,\chi)/c(E,\chi)\), where \(R(E, \chi)\) is a certain determinant and \(c(E, \chi)\) is the special value at \(s=0\) of \(L(s, E \otimes \chi)\). The elliptic Stark conjecture then states that \(A(E, \chi)\) lies in \({\mathbb Q}(\chi)\) and is equivariant in an obvious sense. The author proves this conjecture: -- for rational characters, assuming the above \(L\)-value conjecture 2. -- for an abelian extension \(F/K,\) assuming conjecture 2 and that \(E\) is of ``Shimura type'' \textit{C.~Deninger}, Invent. Math. 96, No. 1, 1--69 (1989; Zbl 0721.14004)]. Without the hypothesis on Shimura type, he also shows that for an abelian extension \(F/K,\) there exists an extension \(M/F\) and a character \(\chi\) of \(\text{Gal}(M/F)\) such that the elliptic Stark conjecture holds for \(E\) and \(\chi\).
