Let \(F\) be a finite extension of \(\mathbb{Q}_p\) in an algebraic closure \(\Omega \). For any \(f\) and \(e\), the authors study \(T(F, f, e)\), the number of \(F\)-isomorphism classes of extensions \(K/F\) in \(\Omega \) with residue degree \(f\) and ramification index \(e\). It is determined completely when \(p^2\nmid e\), and partially when \(p^2\parallel e\). The method is based on Krasner's formulas for the number of such extensions \(K/F\) [\textit{M. Krasner}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris 255, 2342--2344 (1962; Zbl 0117.02803)]; etc, using class field theory to determine \(\Aut(K/F)\), and classifying the finite commutative chain rings \(R=\mathcal{O}_K/\pi ^s _K \mathcal{O}_K\) which are the quotients of rings of integers of \(p\)-adic fields. And it is shown that \(T(\mathbb{Q}_p, f, e)\) equals the number of isomorphism classes of such rings \(R\) for sufficiently large length \(s\). Added on September 5, 2006: From the text of the corrigendum: The proof of proposition 3.3.(i) relies on a result that was incorrectly stated in the above paper. In consequence, Proposition 3.3.(i) and Corollary 3.6(i) require the additional hypothesis \(p\nmid e(\gamma)\). These changes do not affect any of the other statements. The corrected versions are stated.
