Let \(X\) be a closed Riemann surface of genus \(g\), \({\mathfrak M}_{X}(n)\) be the moduli space of all semistable vector bundles over \(X\) of rank \(n\) and degree \(n(g-1)\), and \({\mathfrak N}_{X}(n) \subset {\mathfrak M}_{X}(n)\) be the moduli space of semistable vector bundles with fixed determinant \(\Omega_{X}^{n/2}\) (where \(\Omega_{X}^{1/2}\) is a fixed theta-characteristic on \(X\)). If \(\Theta \subset {\mathfrak M}_{X}(n)\) is the canonical theta divisor, then the authors construct a map (Wirtinger map) from \({\mathfrak N}_{X}(n)-\Theta\) to an affine space of the same dimension. They relate such a construction to theta functions, projective structures and differential operators on \(X\). Unfortunately, they do not obtain finiteness of the Wirtinger map, but they prove that after restricting to the moduli space of torus bundles it happens to be a finite map. In the particular case \(n=2\) they get as a consequence a new finite parametrization of \( \text{Pic}^{0}(X)-\Theta\).
