The paper deals with the multi-level fast multipole solution of \textit{A. J. Burton} and \textit{G. F. Miller}'s hypersingular formulation for the Helmholtz equation in \(R^2\) [Proc. R. Soc. Lond., Ser. A 323, 201--210 (1971; Zbl 0235.65080)]. The authors prove \({\mathcal O} (n \ln ^2 n)\) computational complexity for the method. Numerical results are presented.
