Analogies between group actions on 3-manifolds and number fields (Q1422179)

Based on analogies between knots and primes, 3-manifolds and number fields, the author studies group actions on a 3-manifold and a number field and shows several formulas relating the number of branched knots and primes to the group cohomology or the homology and the ideal class groups, respectively, in case that \(G\) is a cyclic group of order a prime number. These have a flavour of genus theory on the number field side and their 3-manifold analogues. The method employed consists of calculations on the spectral sequence associated with equivariant cohomology.
