The differential equation by \textit{K. Löwner} (Ch. Loewner) [Math. Ann. 89, 103--121 (1923; JFM 49.0714.01)] yields an expansion theorem for the Grunsky space in terms of related Herglotz spaces of analytic functions. The aim of the paper under review is the presentation of a structure theory for local Grunsky spaces. For this purpose, a new family of Hilbert spaces is considered and its existence is proved. First, the relevant spaces and the Löwner differential equation are introduced and a global expansion theorem for the Grunsky space is given (Sec. 2). Secondly, the property of preservation of complementation (as introduced by L. de Branges and J. Rovnyak) under surjective partially isometric transformations is utilized in order to localize the expansion theorem (Sec. 3). Thirdly (in Sec. 4), an admissible family of weighted Dirichlet spaces is applied to construct a local Grunsky space and to obtain an expansion theorem for such a space. The main tools used here are the reproducing kernel function for coefficients of powers of \(z\) and its behavior under the Löwner differential operator.
