Free-boundary regularity for generalized porous medium equations (Q1423933)

The author considers the Cauchy problem for the generalized porous medium equation \[ u_{t}=\Delta\Phi(u)\quad \text{in }\mathbb{R}^n\times[0,T], \qquad u(x)=u_{0}\quad \text{on }\mathbb{R}^n \] with the nonlinearity \( \Phi(u)\). For the case of \( \Phi(u)=\sum_{i=1}^{m} c_{i}u^{\alpha_{i}}\), the author shows the existence of a solution whose smoothness depends on the exponents \( \alpha_{i}\). Regardless of the regularity of the solution, he shows that the free boundary is smooth. He also proves a similar result for \( \Phi(u)\) given by an infinite sum.
