Polynomial reproduction in subdivision (Q1424946)

Subdivision schemes are useful in many parts of approximation theory and in particular in connection with the so-called computer aided geometric design methods for the creation of curves and surfaces. This paper studies such methods in several dimensions and addresses the possibilities of reproducing polynomials exactly from polynomial input data. Sufficient conditions on the masks of the schemes are provided for this and the maximal degree of polynomials that may be recovered is evaluated. Several examples are given too.
