The author is using the approach of approximation spaces to approximate the solution of a linear operator equation with unbounded operator, with application to a special type of Cauchy singular integral equation. The paper extends some ideas of the theory of approximation spaces to a wider class of operator equations, such that the results can be also used for problems which are not related to Cauchy singular integral equations and to demonstrate that approximation spaces are a powerful tool in numerical analysis. The stability and the convergence of projection methods are also discussed.
