The paper deals with the following problem: given a sequence \(\{s_n\}_{n=0}^\infty\) find a function \(\varphi\) such that \[ \int_0^\infty x^n\varphi(x)\,dx=s_n \qquad (n=0,1,2,\dots). \tag{1} \] In the case when these equalities hold for a positive measure \(d\mu\) instead of \(\varphi(x) dx\) the problem was considered by Stieltjes in 1895, the complete solution of the Stieltjes moment problem was given by \textit{M. G. Kreĭn} [On a generalization of Stieltjes investigations, Reports of Academy of Sciences of USSR 87, 881--884 (1952; Zbl 0049.34702)]. As was shown by \textit{A. J. Duran} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 107, 731--741 (1989; Zbl 0676.44007] the problem (1) has a solution in the Schwartz space of rapidly decreasing functions for every sequence \(\{s_n\}_{n=0}^\infty\). The authors strengthen this result by showing that the problem (1) always has a solution in the class \(S^\beta(0,\infty)=\{\varphi\in S^\beta\mid \varphi(x)=0\text{ for }x\leq 0\}\), where \(S^\beta=\{\varphi\in C^\infty(\mathbb{R})\mid\sup_\mathbb{R}| x^p\varphi^{(q)}(x)| \leq C_ph^qq!^\beta\;\exists C_p,h>0\}\).
