The problem ``Under what condition does there exist an additive mapping near an approximately additive mapping?'', posed by \textit{S. M. Ulam} [``Problems in modern mathematics. First published under the title 'A collection of mathematical problems'\,'' (Science Editions, John Wiley and Sons, New York) (1964; Zbl 0137.24201)], was the starting point of the study of the stability of functional equations. More information on the notion of Hyers--Ulam--Rassias stability may be found in \textit{S. M. Jung} [``Hyers--Ulam--Rassias stability of functional equations in mathematical analysis'' (Hadronic Press, Palm Harbor, FL) (2001; Zbl 0980.39024)]. A mapping \(f:E_ 1\to E_ 2\) between normed spaces is called quadratic if \(f\) satisfies the quadratic functional equation \(f(x+y)+f(x-y)=2f(x)+2f(y)\) for all \(x,y\in E_ 1\). The first author who investigated the Hyers--Ulam--Rassias stability of this quadratic functional equation was \textit{F. Skof} [Rend. Sem. Mat. Fis. Milano 53, 113-129 (1983; Zbl 0599.39007)]. A quadratic mapping \(Q:M_ 1\to M_ 2\) between Banach modules over a unital Banach algebra \(B\) is called \(B\)-quadratic if \(Q(ax)=a^ 2Q(x)\), \(a\in B\), \(x\in M_ 1\). The authors of the paper under review prove Hyers--Ulam--Rassias stability of \(B\)-quadratic mappings on modules over a unital Banach algebra and a unital \(C^{*}\)-algebra as well. Some similar results may be found in \textit{C.--G. Park} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 276, 135--144 (2002; Zbl 1017.39010)].
