The paper is concerned with the problem of determining the unknown coefficient \(k(x)\) in the Sturm-Liouville equation \[ -(k(x)u^{\prime}(x))^{\prime}+q(x)u(x)=f(x), x \in (0,1) \] by knowledge of boundary measurements \(u(0)=0\), \(k(1)u^{\prime}(1)=\varphi,\) \(k(0)u^{\prime}(0)=\phi\), and \(u(1)=\beta\). The original inverse problem is reformulated as \[ k^{\prime}(x)+ (u^{\prime\prime}(x)/u^{\prime}(x)) k(x)= (q(x)u(x)-f(x))/u^{\prime}(x) \] with \(k(0)=\phi/u^{\prime}(0)\) or \(k(1)=\varphi/u^{\prime}(1)\). Under the assumption that the zeros of \(u^{\prime}(x)\) and \(u^{\prime\prime}(x)\) on \((0,1)\) are available, the author proposes a numerical method for solving this Cauchy problem.
