The authors present a novel method for the design of fault tolerant control systems. Instead of separating the problem into two distinct phases, a single controller is designed which uses an internal model of the possible faults. Then techniques from output regulation theory are used for the actual controller design. The approach is applied to an induction motor model for which the procedure is applied step by step including proofs of the desired closed loop properties. Experimental and simulation results illustrate the performance of the method.
