The authors study the implementation of an analytic method for large-scale systems in a model permitting the assessement of air quality policy in urban regions. The method is based on the use of a convex optimization technique called the analytic center cutting plane method. The paper proposes the coupling of a photochemical model (used to simulate ozone creation and dispersion) and a techno-mechanical model describing the energy used by different economic sectors of the same region. The coupling is realized owing to a series of approximating convex reduced-order optimization problems with constraints. Numerical simulations corresponding to the region of Genova (Switzerland) are given.
