The author continues the work of Erdős, Joó \& Joó, Komornik, Loreti, Bugeaud, Borwein, Feng, Wen and others in studying the gaps between consecutive terms of the set of numbers which can be written in the form \(a_n q^n + \dots + a_1 q +a_0,\) where \(q\) is a fixed number in the interval \((1,2)\), \(n\) runs over every positive integer and \(a_n, \dots, a_0\) all belong to a finite set \(S.\) Here, the author takes \(S=\{0,1,\dots, m\}\), where \(m\) is a fixed positive integer. In these problems, the most interesting situations occur when \(q\) is a Pisot number. In particular, the author gives a very precise description of these gaps and their frequencies for \(q=(1+\sqrt {5})/2\). (Naturally, Fibonacci numbers feature in these results.)
