A methodology to perform large eddy simulation (LES) around complex boundaries on fixed Cartesian grids is presented. The main features of the method are the following: a) the interface between the fluid and a stationary or moving solid boundary is tracked as a discontinuity; b) the computation of the direct forcing function is done using local multidimensional reconstructions that are applicable to complex bodies and do not require special treatments; c) in the case of LES, issues related to filtering operations and the subsequent computation off the subgrid-scale eddy viscosity in the vicinity of immersed interfaces are adressed.
