Taking his motivation in string theory, the author introduces the space \(\Lambda\) of continuous maps \(\psi:[0,1]\times S^1\to M\) of maps with values in a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\), such that \(\psi(0,t)\in M^1\) and \(\psi(1,t)\in M^2\), where \(M^1\) and \(M^2\) are submanifolds of \(M\). He considers the Brownian motion on this space, and studies its small time behaviour by proving large deviations estimates.
