The paper concerns the first order semi-linear partial differential equation \[ P(x,D)u(x) = \sum^n_{j=1} a_j(x)D_ju(x)=f(x,u(x)),\quad u(0)=0, \] where the coefficients \(a_j(x)\) and \(f(x,u)\) are holomorphic in a neighborhood of the origin in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) and \(\mathbb{C}^{n+1}\) respectively. Under the assumption \(a_j(0)=0\) for all \(j=1,\dots,n\), the author studies the existence and the uniqueness of a formal power series solution \(\sum_{| \alpha|\geq 1} u_{\alpha}x^{\alpha}\). The series does not converge in general, and it is natural then to consider the Gevrey rate of divergence, depending on the matrix \((D_ia_j(0))\), \(i,j=1,\dots,n\). Precise results in the linear case were given by \textit{M. Hibino} [Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 35, 893--919 (1999; Zbl 0956.35024)]. Here the author extends the results to the semi-linear case, under the assumption \(f(0,0)=0\), by using the contraction mapping principle in suitable Banach spaces of Gevrey formal series.
