On the problem of determining a layered structure of the ocean bottom. (Q1432346)

The problem considered in the paper originated in the work by \textit{A. S. Alekseev} and \textit{V. I. Dobrinskiĭ} [Mat. Probl. Geofiz. 6, 7--53 (1975; Zbl 0356.35074)], where a model statement of the problem of determining the deep structure of ocean sediments was investigated. That statement was based on the acoustic equation under the assumption that the acoustic rigidity of the medium varies smoothly with depth. In this paper, a more sophisticated model (a liquid layer placed on a layered elastic half-space) is considered and the problem of determining the elastic parameters of the half-space is analyzed. The analysis is based on the construction of the leading terms of an asymptotic expansion that correspond to various elastic waves repeatedly reflected from the interface.
