    Let \(P(z)\) be a polynomial of degree \(m\geq 1\) with constant complex-valued coefficients, let \(\bigtriangleup\) be the Laplace operator in \(\mathbb R^{n+1}=\{(x_1,\cdots ,x_n,y)\}\). Any solution of the equation \[ P(\bigtriangleup)u(x,y)=0,\quad (x,y)\in \Pi,\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(\Pi:=\{x=(x_1,\cdots ,x_n)\in\mathbb R^{n},\;0<y<1\}\) is a strip in \(\mathbb R^{n+1}\), is called a metaharmonic function. The author considers metaharmonic functions belonging to \(W_2^s\) \((x \in \mathbb R^n, a<y<1)\) for any \(a\in (0,1)\) and any \(s\geq 0\), and such that \(u\in C^{\infty}((0,1];W_2^r(\mathbb R^n))\) for any \(r\geq 0\). In a previous paper [Mat. Sb. 190, No. 10, 17--48 (1999; Zbl 1010.31003)] he found necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of \( L_2(\mathbb R^n)\)-limits and for \( L_2(\mathbb R^n)\)-boundedness, of a metaharmonic function as \(y\mapsto 0\). In the paper under review, these results extend to more general \(W_2^{-k}(\mathbb R^n)\)-limits, and \(W_2^{-k}(\mathbb R^n)\)-boundedness, for any integer \(k>0\), where \(W_2^{-k}(\mathbb R^n), k>0\) denotes, as usual, the Hilbert space of tempered distributions \(f\) in \(\mathbb R^n\) such that their Fourier transforms \(\widetilde{f}\) are locally square integrable and \[ \| f\| _{W_2^{-k}(\mathbb R^n)}^2:= \int_{\mathbb R^n}\frac{| \widetilde{f}(\zeta)| } {(1+| \zeta| ^2)^k}d\zeta <\infty. \]
