Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n\) be a convex domain with diameter \(d\). \textit{L. E. Payne} and \textit{H. F. Weinberger} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 5, 286-292 (1960; Zbl 0099.08402)] proved that the Poincaré inequality \(\| u\|_{L^2(\Omega)}\leq\frac d\pi\|\nabla u\|_{L^2(\Omega)}\) holds for all \(u\) from the Sobolev space \(H^1(\Omega)\) satisfying \(\int_\Omega u(x)dx=0\). The author shows that there is a gap in their proof for the case of \(n\geq3\) and fixes it yet preserving the constant \(d/\pi\) in the inequality.
