The authors consider a linear isotropic material occupying a region \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^3\), with the boundary \(\Gamma=\Gamma_0 \cup\Gamma_1\), which is homotopically equivalent to a hollow ball. Two cases are later considered. One when the inner surface is starlike, while the outer surface is close to a sphere, the other one when the outer boundary is of more general type, but still of \(C^2\) type. The classical relations of linear elasticity are assumed, and \(L^2\) and \(H^1\) spaces are assigned. The dynamic system is given by linear relations: \(\{{\mathbf u}''-\text{div}(\sigma ({\mathbf u}))=0\) in \(\Omega\), \({\mathbf u}_0=0\) on \(\Gamma_0\), \(\sigma({\mathbf u}) \nu+A({\mathbf u})+ B{\mathbf u}'=0\) on \(\Gamma_1\}\) \(\forall t>0\), with \({\mathbf u}_0={\mathbf u}(0)\), and \({\mathbf u}'(0)= {\mathbf u}^1\). Here the primes denote differentiation with respect to time. Use of semigroup arguments leads to the conclusion that the system is well posed. This system was first analyzed by J. E. Lagnese in 1983. The boundary stabilization problem was investigated by F. Alabau and V. Komornik (A \& K). Here the authors use geometric conditions, which they claim are less restrictive then those of A \& K, and choose a somewhat more basic approach combining boundary integration with changes of local coordinates to compute the rate of energy decay.
