This article deals with \(C^1\) compact operators \(A\) leaving invariant a solid cone \(C\) in a Banach space \(E\). The following result is proved. If \(y \in C\) is an isolated fixed point of \(A\) and there exists \(\lambda > 1\) and \(\widetilde u_0 \in \text{int} \, \widetilde{(C_y)}\) such that \(\widetilde {A'(y)}\widetilde u_0 = \lambda \widetilde u_0\), then \(i_C(A,y) = 0\). Here \(C_y = \{y \in E: \;y + tu \in C \;\text{for some} \;t > 0\}\), and the symbol \(\widetilde{\cdot}\) on the wedge and operator means the factorization along \(S_y = \overline{C}_y \cap - \overline{C}_y\).
