Given a set \(A\) of \(n\) pairwise distinct points in a Banach space \(X\), \(k\leq n\), and a point \(x\in X\), let \(r_k(A,x)\) be the average of the \(k\) largest distances of \(x\) to points of \(A\). Let \(r_k(A)=\inf \{ r_k(A,x) : x\in X\}\) and call the \(x\in X\) with \(r_k(A,x)=r_k(A)\) the \(k\)-centers of \(X\). The authors study existence and uniqueness of \(k\)-centers and relations to the geometry of the underlying Banach space.
