The dynamics of the two-equations Oregonator model in 3D excitable media without forcing, and localized and strip forcing has been studied numerically, and it has been shown that, in the absence of forcing and with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, a \(z\)-independent spiral wave which rotates counter-clockwise is formed. This wave is identical to the one observed in two-dimensional studies of spiral wave propagation in excitable media. Calculations performed also with strip forcing, that is, forcing applied in a parallelepiped which extends the entire domain in the vertical direction and is located in the middle of the 3D excitable medium. The authors show the appearance of two active regions on both sides of the strip. These active regions which are characterized by high concentration of the activator move towards to the boundaries parallel to the strip, and upon reaching them, more rather quickly in a direction parallel to the strip. They also form complex spatial patterns.
