The aim of the paper is to present a general method of direct identification of absorption and scattering coefficients and phase function of porous media, assumed statistically homogeneous and isotropic for a transparent fluid phase and a opaque solid phase by using a Monte Carlo technique. In the paper, original results are presented regarding the identification of extinction, absorption and scattering coefficients and an application of the method to a porous medium modeled either by a set of overlapping spheres of fluid, of centers randomly distributed in the solid phase, or, on the contrary, of overlapping solid spheres, of centers randomly distributed in the fluid phase.
