The authors study several spherical voids which are included in the three-dimensional, small scale yielding model to simulate the material failure process and ductile crack growth. Two distinct void growth mechanisms, void by void growth mechanism and multiple void interaction mechanism, are contained in the model developed in this paper. A material failure criterion, based on the occurrence of void coalescene (internal necking) in the unit cell model, is established. The critical ligament reduction ratio, which varies with the macroscopic stress state and the initial porosity, is used to determine ligament failure between the crack tip and the nearest void. Numerical analysis is also performed to examine the effect of \(T\)-stress on the fracture resistance.
