Verf. schildert zwei von Archimedes stammende Verfahren zur angehäherten Bestimmung der Quadratwurzel sowie ein ebenfalls auf Archimedes zurückgehendes Verfahren zur angenäherten Bestimmung von \(\sqrt{a^2 + b^2}\), wenn \(\frac{b^2}{a^2} < \frac{1}{12}\) ist und \(a\) und \(b\) große rationale Zahlen sind.
