Die Funktion \(f (x)\) sei durch die Beziehung \(f (x) = \frac 12 (x+ | x|)\) definiert, und \(f^n (x)\) bedeute die \(n\)-malige Wiederholung der Operation \(f\) an der Zahl \(x\). Dann hat man für \(i = \sqrt{-1}\) \[ \frac{2}{\pi} = \lim_{n=\infty} f^n(i). \] Sieht man genauer zu, so findet man, daß diese Formel mit anderen, älteren zusammenfällt, insbesondere mit der von \textit{Viète-Euler}: \[ \frac{2}{\pi} = \cos \frac{\pi}{4} \cdot \cos \frac{\pi}{8} \cdot \cos \frac{\pi}{16} \cdots . \]
